Radio Frequency 101: What is RF Skin Tightening?

RF skin tightening is a non-surgical aesthetic technique that uses Radio Frequency energy to heat tissue and stimulate sub-dermal collagen production. The result is a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and loose skin. Clients may see some visible improvements immediately, with optimal results up to 12 weeks following the treatment.

How RF skin tightening works

Radio Frequency induces tissue remodeling and the production of new collagen and elastin by targeting the skin’s underlying structure with RF energy. The local heating causes an immediate contraction of collagen fibers and, at the same time, increases the metabolism of the fibroblasts, thereby accelerating the production of new collagen and elastin fibers.

The concentration of collagen fibers and the regeneration of the collagen and elastin deposits tighten the skin layers, creating smoother, healthier, and younger-looking skin. This safe and relaxing process provides an alternative to facelifts and other cosmetic surgeries.

Types of RF delivery

There are different classifications of Radio Frequency delivery, based on the layout of the electrodes: Monopolar RFBipolar RF, and Vacuum RF (bipolar RF with vacuum suction). If the device has one active electrode, we have monopolar RF. With two active electrodes, we have bipolar RF.

What areas can be treated with RF skin tightening?

Radio Frequency is suitable for just about all areas for tightening loose skin, including the face, décolletage area, abdomen, hips, arms, legs, back, and buttocks.

RF skin tightening can be used on its own for tightening loose skin or combined with Ultrasonic Cavitation for complete body contouring.
